The Early Learning
Goals are at the heart of the National Curriculum for the education
of 3 and 4 year olds, or the Foundation Stage. They aim to develop
the key skills of speaking, listening, collaborating, concentrating
and persisting. The Early Learning Goals are designed to help young
learners to develop the literacy and numeracy skills that will prepare
them for Key Stage 1 and their life beyond. ICT can play a key role
in supporting the development of these skills and offers teachers
a range of valuable teaching tools.
Almost without exception,
children using appropriate ICT are interested, excited and motivated.
Unlike some adults, they are unafraid of technology and confident
to try out new activities. Because they find the work so engaging,
most children have longer attention spans when using ICT.
SEMERC provides a range
of ICT resources that are suitable for the Foundation Stage, from
battery-operated toys to touch screens; from web based resources
to CD-ROMs.
For example, role play activities with ICT are perfect environments
for developing a wide range of communication skills. Our At the...
series is designed to create role-play activities based on children's
own experiences, there are 6 titles in the series to chooce from including At the Post Office, At the Garden Centre and At the Toy Shop.
