Many children with autism are particularly motivated when using
a computer. SEMERC software and hardware can be used to augment and
enhance autism intervention programs by parents, teachers, and speech
and language therapists.
Our resources can be used to strengthen the following areas of ability:
Core Cognitive Skills
Areas such as memory, auditory memory, attention and multi-tasking,
as contained in Switch On games, Spell
Track and Alphabet
Track and Sequences.
Language
Includes pre-language and emerging language,
as found in Sound
Beginnings, the Leaps
and Bounds Series and flashcard software to build language,
such as Flash Pro.
Social Skills
Includes areas such as identifying appropriate behaviour and handling
problems, which are covered by the innovative Just Like series (higher
level users only) and the Out
and About 1.
Music Skills
Music can be used to strengthen overall auditory processing. Programs
such as BlackCat
Compose is ideal for this; it represents phrases of music with
pictures, which are then combined to make music.
SEMERC also offers a variety of visually stimulating software for
those pupils who enjoy and respond best to visual learning. Our
range of sensory software includes Flip
It!,
Slider, Maze
on and Plasma
and Ameba.
